New Challenges, New Solutions

Transportation planners are constantly facing new challenges. This is a reflection of the ever increasing travel needs of people and goods and the budgetary constraints faced by governments.  The public sector is trying hard to better manage the existing transportation system and to find alternative ways to finance new transportation infrastructure. There are also the challenges of designing improved transportation systems that conform to the higher environmental standards of the present times.  EMME users, as part of the planning profession, need to come up with better modelling ways to evaluate the solutions that will shape our future transportation systems and possibly produce new ones.

You are invited to submit an abstract for a paper or a presentation of interest to transportation planners/ modelling practitioners using EMME. Submitted papers will be reviewed.  Chosen papers will be organized into subject areas to form the final program of the conference.

Suggested areas:

  • Regional model development and calibration
  • Transit modelling methods and applications
  • Toll road studies
  • Congestion pricing studies
  • Managed lanes (HOV, HOT) modelling
  • Evaluating gas emissions and other environmental impacts
  • Interface of EMME with GIS software, traffic software, etc.
  • Integrated models (Land Use, Activity-based)
  • Interaction with dynamic models or meso-simulation/ micro-simulation models (e.g. Dynameq) for sub-area analysis
  • Urban goods movements
  • Demand modelling approaches with EMME
  • Non-traditional uses of EMME

Abstracts should be limited to 500 words in length. The abstract should briefly, but clearly state the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the work to be described in the final paper. Please provide the name of the author(s), organization, address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address, as well as a short biographical note for the main author.

Abstracts should be prepared in MS-Word format and e-mailed to Arthur Tai (Arthur.Tai@Ontario.ca).  The following link provides a formatted abstract sample file ready for use.

Please note that the principal language for the conference is English.  Presentations or papers can be made in other languages but no translation services will be provided.

A PC station with MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Acrobat Reader software will be provided on site.

The deadline for abstract submission is August 31, 2007.  Authors will be informed on the selection of their papers by September 14, 2007.

The final papers and presentations must be provided in an electronic format and will be made available on the INRO website after the conference.
